Career
2001–present
Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne, Illinois
- Process Chemistry and Engineering Department Head, responsible for
programmatic and financial management. Manages activities and facilities
of three research groups with a combined operating budget of ~$9 million
and a staff of 30 conducting research on spent fuel separations,
repository waste form corrosion and nanoscale engineering
- Responsible for nuclear fuel cycle process development for the UREX+
process for the Advanced Fuel Cycle Initiative with primary
responsibility for the UREX+ process demonstrations at Argonne
- Responsible for the process development for the CSSX process for the
Salt Processing Facility at the Savannah River National Laboratory site
1996–2001
BP Amoco, Naperville, Illinois; Senior Research Engineer
- Clean fuels: developed new technologies for gasoline and
distillates to reduce sulfur and nitrogen levels, decrease
particulate emissions and eliminate benzene from fuels
- Chemical feedstocks: developed technologies to recover or
produce valuable chemical-grade material from low-value refinery
streams
- Asset support: responsible for all separation needs at
four refineries, with main emphasis on distillation and novel
separations
- Hydroprocessing: responsible for minimizing reactor
pressure drop, increasing hydrogen purity and reconciling modeling
tools
1988–1996
Argonne National Laboratory; Chemical Engineer
- TRUEX Program: developed separation processes for recovery
of radioactive materials
- Modeling: developed material balance, solvent loading and
speciation models
- Data collection: reconciled experimental and predicted
data
1984–1988
Notre Dame University, Notre Dame, Indiana
